Here’s an opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus by doing one of the corporal works of mercy of feeding the hungry. The Knights prepare 300 lunches monthly for those in need living on the streets of downtown San Diego. The lunches are made at church in the lower parking lot.
The Feed the Homeless team is comprised of a Kitchen Crew and a Road Crew.
Part 1 – Lunch Preparation with the Kitchen Crew
Families/Kids are invited to help the Knights of Columbus pack lunches for the homeless from 9-10 am in the lower parking lot northwest corner of the new parish center. No need to sign up, just come!
Part 2 – Lunch Delivery with the Road Crew
The Road Crew is comprised of adults who drive downtown to distribute the food. (Due to security reasons, children are not allowed to join the delivery). The Road Crew comprises of three vehicles with three people per vehicle. We have a Stand-By list for our road crew in the event that our volunteers are unable to make it that day. Our Road Crew leaves the church after all meals are packed.
We are always happy to welcome more families to help prepare the 300 lunches. We are able to leave earlier if we have more hands. We are also in need of one or two 21 year old men to be available as a substitute in case one of our regular road crew is unable to make it. We are also looking for a married couple who would be willing to drive downtown once every three or four months. Please contact Burt for more information.
*Please note this is a recurring event happening every 3rd Saturday morning of the month.
